Easy! 5 Steps to Self Care

Self care is giving the world the best of you not what’s left of you.

For my Gorgeous Ladies, who I’m missing so much, I’m going to share my favourite ways and resources to look after your physical and mental wellbeing while we’re in lockdown.

I know from years of working with my beautiful boudoir and portrait clients that a little self care goes a long way to helping you feel more sexy and confident.

What better time than now to work on ourselves so we can feel great and be fully there to support our loved ones?

ONE ❤️ Just Move 

Have you noticed you feel more exhausted than usual? 

This locked down, constant news feed situation we’re in creates a high alert in our minds & bodies which is stressing our system, leaving us tired and overwhelmed.

Pay loving attention to your body by moving it, even for 10 mins a day to help release the stress to feel sooo much better! It doesn’t have to be intense, just intentional.Breathing deeply and slowly reduces stress and instantly calms your mind.

When we’re constantly stressed, we gain weight because the body and brain are in primitive survival mode and store everything they can (mainly fat) to prepare for the worst.

Exercise releases happy hormones into your body & reduces stress hormones. When we release stress we think more clearly, sleep better and release excess weight.  

I’d love you to start seeing exercise as a nurturing, freeing way to care for yourself rather than punish yourself.You deserve to take this time for yourself.

Yoga or pilates are gentle exercises that you can do at home on the floor without any equipment. The good thing about doing these lessons on your phone is you don’t have to worry about looking silly because you’re in the privacy of your own home!

Fit and Fierce over 40 is my favourite Yoga program, it’s very easy, super cheap and really focuses on releasing tension and empowering yourself.

I’m not a fitness or health expert, I’m just sharing what has helped me. Please see a health professional if you have any health concerns, injuries, or feel you need medical approval before starting an exercise program.

TWO ❤️ Meditate 

This could be the most productive thing you do today, even if you fall asleep!  

When we are stressed, or in the middle of a crisis like this, we can’t think clearly because we are in ‘fight or flight’ mode,which means “don’t think, just run or hide!’.

This is a primal survival instinct to stop us from getting killed or eaten, but Our bodies aren’t able to do this long term!The higher our resting stress level, more more easily we get tipped over into full blown panic/anger/anxiety.

This also has short and long term effects on our health by compromising our immune system, and our health because our bodies just can’t keep this up.Please don’t feel guilty about taking 5-10 minutes out, it’s not a waste of time to sit still and shut out all the noise.

Have you noticed you’re feeling a mixture being of highly anxious and completely exhausted? Or that when you’re feeling anxious, it sits in a certain part of your body, like a pain in the stomach, chest, or head?When we meditate, we calm down the mind and nervous system, reduce pain and tension, and can function better for the rest of the day.We make better decisions and have more patience and understanding for those around us.It’s like filling up your energy bucket, and will improve your health.

THREE ❤️ Eat Well   

When we’re bored, stressed or looking for comfort, we automatically grab sweet or fatty foods. Instead of making us feel better, they make us feel sluggish, tired and foggy.Try having a fruit smoothie for breakfast, it lifts your mood and nourishes your body, giving you an amazing start to the day! It only takes 2 mins to throw together and keeps you full for hours.My favourite resource for health & healing is @themedical medium find the smoothie here on the Medical Medium Blog

This is my favourite smoothie, adapted from the Liver Rescue book by Anthony Williams, the Medical Medium. It’s absolutely delicious, takes less that 5 minutes to make and is super addictive and satisfying.

Rescue Smoothie


2 bananas
½ cup frozen pink dragonfruit (frozen fruit section at Coles or Woolworths)
1 cups fresh or frozen wild blueberries or frozen cherries
½ cup water
Combine all ingredients in the blender. Blend until smooth. Makes 1-2 servings
If you don’t have access to the options for pitaya and/or wild blueberries, substitute fresh or frozen blackberries, cultivated blueberries, mango or cherries.

FOUR ❤️ Romance

Romance reduces stress hormones. 

It keeps you young and healthy and beautiful.It improves everyday mood and keeps you energised.It gives you a glow from the inside out! If you’re shut in with your partner, and you’re both a little blah & bored, why not take this opportunity to reconnect?

You might not feel like it, I get it, you might think he should be the one making more effort, I get it, you might have too much to do or too much on your mind to be able to even think about it, I get it, lol! But if you just wait until you ‘feel like it’, Honey, it may never happen!

Let’s start with something easy and loving for yourself. To bring some romance back you need to have some idea of what that looks like to you. Try making a list of what you’d find romantic, and pick something, can you think of 5 things that would make you feel more romantic?Then pick just one, the easiest one, and see if you can make that happen. 

When you start making a change, he will too. He’ll feel the shift in your energy and start changing with you. 

When you’re both feeling happy, energised and loved, that spreads to everyone around you. 

If you’re feeling a bit lacking in the romance department, I highly recommend starting with the Love Languages Quiz. You can take it on your own or with your partner.Sometimes all you need is to understand what the other person is trying to tell you.

FIVE ❤️ Decluttering 

Give yourself some room to breathe.

Just 10 minutes a day on one small task can make a big difference!

Hint: Set a timer so you don’t feel like it’s going to take forever ?
