Planning a wedding is a daunting task. I don’t care who you are,
how organised you think you are or how strong you think your
relationship is. The planning of your wedding is a lot of hard work,
big decisions and compromises. The one thing Effie and I knew was
how important photography was to us. To capture those moments
we didn’t see, and to capture those moments that we would cherish
forever. We knew we wanted beautiful images- after all, who doesn’t?
But we wanted more than that. We wanted candid photos that
appeared effortless and most of all we wanted someone to shoot our
wedding who GOT us. Someone we felt understood a little about us,
our personalities and what was important to us.
We interviewed A LOT of photographers. Most of them left us
nonplussed. No one wants to feel like just another job and we left
many a studio just shaking our heads. We started asking ourselves
were we expecting too much? But we stuck to our guns. We knew we
didn’t want someone putting their ideas on us and telling us where
to stand and how to pose. At least, not all day! Besides, wedding
photography is a big investment and we wanted value for our money,
both in the finished product certainly, but also in the experience
during the day.
Effie found Megan’s site on the internet and sent me the link. We
loved her photos. Something in her photography was honest and
yet so striking- beautiful images, interesting angles, great use of
light and tasteful, considered post- production. We loved how every
wedding she photographed looked completely different- as though
she managed to instil a little of each couple’s personality in every
frame she took.
We took a drive out to Fern Tree Gully one sunny afternoon after
work and met Megan at her studio where she made us feel right
at home and her cheerful and down to earth demeanour relaxed us
instantly. Naturally we looked at some of her work and the packages
she offered but mostly we just talked. Megan wanted to know
about us and what made us tick- the style, colours and themes of
our wedding and the things that were important to us. We must
have been with her for about 90 minutes and drove home so happy,
confident we had found our photographer. I booked Megan the next
day and she tweaked one of her packages to suit exactly what we
were after.
During the following months that preceded our wedding Effie had
constant contact from Megan as she stayed in touch and asked how
we were doing with thoughts on locations etc.
The months passed and our wedding day arrived and it flew by,
just as we’d been warned. I remember small things, like how dry
my mouth was before the ceremony and how the ring didn’t fit on
my right hand. I will never need any photographs to remember
how elegant and beautiful Effie was that day, but I am so grateful
that I do have them because every time I see them the whole day
comes flooding back. Megan seemed to be everywhere and yet she
was invisible. I actually don’t recall seeing her in action at all at the
church or at the Lindrum later in the day. She organised the family
photos at St Kilda beach with effectiveness and the results speak for
themselves. She worked wonderfully with our videographer also
as they bounced ideas off each other regarding angles, shots and
lighting and ensured they didn’t hinder each other.
It was only later that I realised how hard Megan and her assistant
worked that day. Photos in Prahran and Elwood homes prior to the
ceremony, then the church in South Melbourne, family photos in St
Kilda Gardens, wedding party photos at both St Kilda beach and then
Hotel Lindrum on Flinders St, and then to Red Scooter in Balaclava
for more photos prior to the reception and cutting of the cake.
One of the most important requirements to Effie and myself was
that the package included a disc with all our photos on it that we
could print for family and friends at any time. So many wedding
photographers control your photos, limit what they include in
your album and then refuse to let you access any more unless you
pay. This was anathema to us and Megan was more than happy
to provide us with a disc containing 991 photos from the day.
The actual finished product exceeded our expectations and some
amazing photos now decorate our home from our wedding day.
Megan provided us with colour, black and white and a small amount
of treated photographs that absolutely took our breath away. I
remember having the most amazing day and viewing Megan’s photos
confirm that.
To anyone that values the personal touch that is discreet and yet
at the same time intimate then Megan Aldridge is for you. She is
courteous, professional and unflappable and, most importantly, a
truly gifted photographer. Effie and I couldn’t have been happier with
the result and would recommend her to anyone.

Megan Aldridge and her team are simply fantastic, their professional but personalised service was exactly what we were looking for when we began the search for our wedding photographer. We were looking for someone who would capture the “little moments” of the day; the expressions of our family and friends, the details of our flowers and outfits, and candid images illustrating our happy mood. Megan achieved this perfectly; she has an amazing eye for detail and combined with her unobtrusive personality she enabled everybody to feel at ease in front of the camera.
Leading up to the wedding we were both quite overwhelmed with all the tasks that needing completion, and also by the vast choices when it came to choosing service providers! There were so many we had no idea how we were ever going to find the right ones! Of course on the day these details became irrelevant as we both just enjoyed the moment! When we first met with Megan we loved the fact that instead of pushing her thoughts and ideas on to us, she let us communicate what we wanted from her and her team. She facilitated this by asking all the right questions, and was more than happy to offer her own advice. By the end of this meeting we got the distinct impression that she understood “us” and what made us unique.
On the day Megan was completely focused on capturing every important moment, all of our photo locations were perfectly suited to our style, and Megan helped keep the bridal party and family engaged throughout the wedding photography process. If she noticed an unplanned opportunity for a great photo she was so efficient in obtaining it; some of our best photos came from these situations!
The best things about our experience with Megan Aldridge are:
- Our WONDERFUL wedding photos, these are honestly better than we ever imagined, and we have some beautiful candid photography of both of us, our friends, family and bridal party. There are moments captured that neither of us recall due to the fast paced nature of the wedding day, and now we have these forever.
- Megan’s wonderful personality and attention to detail, she is not pushy AT ALL but everyone listens to her because she has a lovely way of communicating with wedding guests, bridal party members and family. We had a thorough pre-wedding meeting a week before the big day to go over everything, including, timing, locations, back up plans in case of rain, etc. At the conclusion of the meeting we felt as though no matter what Megan had it all under control!
- The quick service! We had our photos within 7 weeks of our wedding day, which was much faster than many other photographers could provide them.
